These beautiful soapstone hearts are hand carved and hand painted in Kisii, Western Kenya by a self-help group.

Soapstone is a very soft and tactile stone, making it perfect as a worry stone or a pocket stone.

The stone is hand-mined, carved, painted, and etched. As many as 8 people work on one soapstone piece making each one unique.

The area where soapstone is mined in Kenya, Tabaka, is an area of poverty. By buying fair trade soapstone you are directly supporting fair employment in a craft industry in which workers are often exploited by middlemen.

These hand-carved red soapstone hearts are heavy, polished smooth with a deep red finish. A nice-sized palm stone.
