Collection: The Susan Folk Art Collection

Vintage hand-painted wooden folk art décor from the 1980s & 1990s — one-of-a-kind collectible pieces, crafted with care and history.

This collection is more than vintage folk art — it is a story of partnership, creativity, and legacy.

Each piece was handmade by Susan and her husband, who built our home in the mid 1970s. Down in the cellar workshop, he cut and shaped the wood while she brought each creation to life with her paintbrush — a perfect balance of craft and artistry. Together they attended art shows through the late ’80s and ’90s, sharing their work and building memories.

When Chuck and I came to live here, I felt the weight of their story — because it mirrors our own. He and I, too, spend our days side by side, one building, the other creating, weaving a life out of shared work. To hold these pieces is to feel that same spirit of collaboration — the quiet rhythm of two people making beauty together.

Some pieces show their age, with gentle fading or dust from years on display. I see that not as imperfection, but as evidence of a life well-lived and art well-loved. These works carry not just Susan’s artistry, but the enduring love and partnership that created them.

It feels like an honor — and a responsibility — to pass them forward. My hope is that these handmade treasures find new homes where their story continues, cherished and displayed as part of the larger tradition of makers and dreamers. One day, I hope someone feels the same way about the things Chuck and I have made together.

Rooted in history. Made by hand. Passed forward with care.
