The Stillroom Dusting Powders

The Stillroom Dusting Powders
The Powder Compendium — A Stillroom Archive of Scent & Memory
A Quiet Tradition Reimagined
Each blend begins with a memory and ends as a keepsake — milled fine, wrapped in story, and preserved within the Stillroom Archive.
The Stillroom Powders are talc-free botanical body powders, made by hand in small batches. Each scent belongs to a numbered Field and Collection, forming a living archive of scent and story.
Every powder is joined by its printed companion cards — pressed, folded, and tied by hand — so that each scent becomes more than fragrance alone: it becomes part of a written and tangible tradition.

The Stillroom Tradition
In the old homes of New England, the stillroom was a place of quiet work — shelves lined with jars of herbs and oils, recipes written by hand, and the soft hum of daily care.
It was here that perfumes were mixed, powders milled, and small comforts made for the home and skin alike.
Our powders carry forward that same spirit: grounding the past in the present and turning daily ritual into something meaningful and slow. Each is a small preservation of time — a blend of herbs, clays, and oils, joined by story and scent.

The Stillroom Archive System
Every Stillroom Powder belongs to a living archive — a record of scent, story, and season.
Each blend carries a Field Number, and every Field belongs to a collection: Seasonal Woods & Weather, Honeyed & Hearth, Essential Oil Infused, and others.
These are the quiet catalogues of the stillroom. Each powder, card, and label is a numbered entry in a growing apothecary of scent and memory.

The Stillroom Archive Cards
Each Stillroom Powder is accompanied by a set of Stillroom Archive Cards — tangible records of scent and story.
Designed to be collectible, framable, and beautiful enough for journaling, collage, or display, the cards are printed on Neenah Paper — smooth, archival-quality stock chosen for its subtle weight and luxurious feel. It’s the kind of paper that people notice without knowing quite why.
Each card features high-impact artwork inspired by vintage apothecary ledgers and botanical specimen tags. Over time, they form a tactile record — tucked into notebooks, pinned to studio walls, or kept neatly in drawers as a personal archive of scent and season.
The paper is FSC certified, meaning it’s responsibly sourced according to the standards of the Forest Stewardship Council — a quiet reflection of the same care and stewardship that guide the stillroom itself.

The Stillroom Packaging & Provenance
Each powder is created with organic ingredients from small family farms and trusted herbal growers. Many of the herbs are gathered and dried here at the farm or steeped into oils in the stillroom itself. The result is simple and honest — powders made from things you can pronounce, drawn directly from the natural world.
The packaging follows that same philosophy. Every detail is intentional — traditional apothecary packaging, free of excess plastic and designed to be reused or recycled. Kraft envelopes, brass paper fasteners, parchment wraps, twine, and coin envelopes echo the ways powders once left the old stillrooms and general stores.
Inside, a small plastic inner bag is the only modern addition — it keeps the powder behaving as it should: free-flowing, moisture-safe, and richly scented.
To open a Stillroom Powder is to step back in time — into the old apothecary at the end of the street, where the floorboards creak, herbs hang drying from the rafters, and jars of clay, salt, and pigment line the shelves. Mortars and notebooks rest among feathers, shells, and stones. The air carries a fragrance you can’t quite name but know instinctively — the scent of memory, of care, of work done slowly by hand.

A Living Archive of Scent & Story
The Stillroom Powders are made to be used, gifted, and kept. Over time, your cards and blends become a record of the seasons — a personal archive of scent and memory gathered by hand.
Softly scented. Nostalgically made. Rooted in the Stillroom Tradition.

The Making Ritual
Each blend begins in the stillroom, where herbs are sifted, clays measured, and oils mixed in small batches.
The powders are milled fine, rested for several weeks to allow the scent to settle, and then wrapped and labeled by hand.
Every parcel bears its Field Number, tied with twine, and joined by its cards. Opening one becomes part of the ritual — a quiet moment to pause, read, and breathe.

Vintage Powder Dishes
Antique porcelain, glass, and silver once graced vanities and washstands — vessels meant to hold finely milled dusting powder. Today, they wait to be filled again, each one carrying both history and beauty into the stillroom.
An heirloom touch for every powder ritual.

Herbs gathered, oils infused — the foundation of the stillroom tradition.
Why “The Powder Compendium”?
The word compendium means a collection of knowledge gathered into one place — an archive, a treasury, a record. In the stillroom tradition, powders were never just recipes; they were fragments of memory, season, and craft. The Powder Compendium gathers these blends together as both fragrance and history — powders to use, to collect, and to keep as part of your own stillroom.
To hold one is to keep a fragment of the season; to gather them is to collect the Archive itself.
