The Story Behind the Find

I first spotted this dazzling crystal piece in an online auction nearly a decade ago, and it absolutely took my breath away. I knew I had to try for it—so my daughter and I made it a real adventure. We drove 4 hours to New York, stayed overnight, swam in the hotel pool, and soaked in the mineral hot tubs. I can still feel the joy that bubbled up when I realized I had actually won the piece. But the real treasure of that trip was the time with my daughter.

She was a young teen then, just beginning to discover makeup and all the excitement of growing into herself. I’ll never forget the moment she surfaced from the pool with the biggest smile—only for us both to burst out laughing when we saw her mascara had run all around her eyes, giving her the most dramatic raccoon look. We laughed until we cried. That crystal sparkled on my vanity for ten years after that—always reminding me of that joyful trip, those tender growing-up years, and the kind of mother-daughter bond that only gets better with time.
