Madame Sherri was a costume designer and quite a notorious party girl in the Roaring 20s. She designed and built a beautiful mansion on a 588-acre property in Chesterfield, NH. During prohibition, she held lavish house parties at the Castle as she called it, and it was a popular party spot.
The land was donated to the Forest Society after her death and was renamed Madame Sherri Forest. To this day, visitors walk the woods and see what’s left of her “castle”, including the striking stone staircase that used to lead to Madame Sherri’s private quarters.
