A stillroom-made vanity set, assembled for everyday use.

A Stillroom-made vanity set, assembled for everyday use.

This clear glass powder dish features the classic Windsor Button & Cane pattern — a pressed glass design produced by Federal Glass Company in the mid-20th century. Made in clear glass and left unmarked, these earlier Federal pieces are valued for their weight, clarity, and quiet durability. Federal Glass was later absorbed by Indiana Glass, making these dishes part of the earlier lineage.

Here, the dish is gathered into a stillroom set meant not for display, but for habit.

The lid lifted in morning light.
The spoon raised, then set back.
The powder used because it belongs there.

Kept. Used. Returned.

The Stillroom Powder — Lavender Dragee

Inside the dish rests Lavender Dragée, a finely milled, talc-free dusting powder blended in small batches in the stillroom. Lavender is softened with a faint sweetness — sugared, familiar, and gently nostalgic — recalling the powders once kept on vanity tables for daily use.

This is lavender meant to be lived with, not saved.

The Spoon & Puff

A new stock-vintage silver-plate powder spoon is dressed simply with a length of vintage-inspired ribbon. A soft powder puff rests inside the dish — full, light, and meant to be used.

Together, they recall the small, ordinary tools once kept at hand — nothing precious, nothing wasted, everything returned to its place.

Stillroom Assembly

Each Vanity Set No. 03 is assembled by hand in the stillroom. The powder dish is wrapped archive-style in paper and cotton string, finished with a hand-applied label affixed using traditional wheat paste. The powder is tucked into a stillroom envelope and secured beneath twine with a brass fastener.

A small, unannounced note is included — a quiet human touch, meant to be discovered rather than described.

No archive cards accompany this set. What is given is what is needed.

Maker’s Note The label on this piece is applied using traditional wheat paste — a simple flour-and-water adhesive long used in bookbinding, apothecary work, and archival labeling. The label itself is printed on vintage writing stationery, chosen to echo the materials once used for marking jars, drawers, and shelves in the stillroom. Together, these choices reflect the tradition of making and marking by hand, valued for their gentleness, reversibility, and history. {The wheat paste is used only in the application of the label and does not come into contact with the powder.}

Use & Care

Dust lightly on clean, dry skin after bathing or before dressing. Rest the puff inside the dish; return the spoon to its place. Refillable and made to be used — a small, everyday ritual gathered in glass and habit.
