A Jacquard-Topped Art Deco Keepsake

Soft threads, old brass, and a winter yard-sale warmth — this quiet little powder dish carries its own small history in every detail.

I found this piece a few years back on the long drive to the sugaring supply house. Maple season was just beginning, and we were replacing the main line in the grove after the squirrels had chewed great holes through it over winter — a mystery and a bit of mischief we still laugh about. Along the back road, a hand-painted sign caught my eye: “Yard Sale in the Garage — Wood Stove Is Going.”

Inside, warm from the stove and smelling faintly of cedar smoke, this dish was sitting on a small folding table — its brass lid softened with time, the woven jacquard beneath its clear cover still glowing with pale blue threads. I brought it home that day, and it has lived on my own vanity ever since. In the evenings, by candlelight, it was especially beautiful — the fabric pattern catching warm flickers across the mirrored tray in the dressing room. Now it’s time for it to go on to its next keeper.

A Stillroom Powder, Rooted in Memory

Beside this Art Deco glass jar you’ll find the Stillroom Archive set — the Lavender Dragée powder tucked safely inside its sealed Archive Coin Envelope. Each envelope is labeled with a black-and-white DYMO field number, wrapped with twine and a small brass fastener, and paired with the front label, the three-fold story card, and the printed winter fox-and-fern seal. The powder itself is kept tidy in a protective zip-top pouch within the envelope, preserving freshness and keeping everything perfectly contained until you choose to fill the dish.

Lavender Dragée is our handmade dusting powder inspired by early 1900s vanity tables — lavender warmed with sugared almond, soft as rose-papered drawers and morning light across an old quilt.

The Dish

A truly charming 1930s–1940s pressed-glass powder jar featuring:

  • Ribbed Art Deco glass with vertical framed panels
  • Original brass-toned lid with beautiful patina (could polish, though I’ve loved it as it is)
  • Jacquard textile insert in pale blue, ivory, and silver, clean and bright
  • Original clear celluloid cover — bright and intact, with no yellowing from age
  • Interior lid coating (likely early enamel or paint) showing scattered discoloration and one small chipped area on inside of cover
  • Glass base free of chips or cracks
These small marks of age reveal how gently — and how long — it has been used and loved.

What's Included

  • 1 vintage pressed-glass powder dish with jacquard-topped lid
  • 2 oz. Lavender Dragée Stillroom Dusting Powder
  • Handmade powder puff (neutral tone)
  • Stillroom Archive Coin Envelope with story & field cards

Mixed to order in the mountain-house stillroom, where winter work is slow and thoughtful. Finely milled for a velvety finish; fragranced with a soft, close-to-you warmth.
