A Winter Dusting Powder for the Christmas Hearth
Across New England, modest stoneware crocks once kept pantry staples by the fire—flour, salt, honey, the makings of comfort. Gathered over six winters and reclaimed for the Stillroom, each vintage crock now holds Pressed Balsam—forest resin, a hint of smoke, and the faint sweetness of winter pine.
Made for the season of giving, this powder gathers the scent of hearth and evergreen into a quiet ritual of care—a stillroom Christmas in scent and texture.
· Mixed to order in the mountain-house stillroom, where winter work is slow and thoughtful. Finely milled for a velvety finish; fragranced with a soft, close-to-you warmth.

Packaging & Provenance
- Vessel: Authentic mid-century vintage stoneware crock (1950s–1970s). Each shows its own glaze, shape, and age—no two alike.
- Seal: Powder rests in a clear cello bag tied with white Baker’s twine and ivory crochet lace; a gold-edged bay leaf marked “turn” lies on top—an emblem of reflection and the turning of the year.
- Covering: Layers of cheesecloth and muslin topped with chocolate-brown calico patterned with tiny red roses, then closed beneath the lid.
-
Puff: One hand-sewn fabric powder puff (made years ago by a neighbor, kept wrapped in brown paper and cord).
- Puff color chosen from peach or lavender
-
Archive Cards:
- Front Label: Apothecary-style sticker affixed to the crock—clean, archival, and readable.
- Story Card: A short Christmas-season lore for Pressed Balsam—to be kept with the vessel.
- Field Note Card: Use & Care on front; the maker’s mark—a faint green spoon—pressed on the reverse.
- Archive Coin Envelope: Kraft envelope to hold the cards, finished with a black DYMO identification label.
· Quiet, keepable prints—meant to travel with the crock and live on in the Stillroom.
Sizes
- Small Crock — 3 oz (bedside/vanity)
- Large Crock — 6 oz (dresser/bath/linen chest)
How to Use
Dust lightly after a winter bath, or shake gently into folded flannels and quilts.
